Work on the new World Trade Center in New York is sprinting along. The official Twitter account (@WTCProgress) just announced that the steel frame for the building has already reached the 92nd floor. The new tower will have 104 floors, making it smaller than the original Twin Towers but taller than I am when I wear the inserts that Tom Cruise wears to make him look the same size as Katie Holmes. This is what the new World Trade Center will look like (in context – and with Photoshop weather). What are your thoughts?

I think it’s ok but nothing special. And it’s dull compared to Asian skyscrapers. For me, the real star of the New York skyline has always been the Chrysler Building…

I’ve known Una Gibney for years (since we were both six or something) and she’s performed at the George a bunch of times. She’s always great fun but she also gives everything she’s got to every performance – no matter how small. She’s looking for your support to get her to a pretty BIG performance. One in front of all of Europe representing Ireland at this year’s Eurovision. Alongside Jedward, Donna McCaul and two other hopefuls (who I can’t think of right now, Meryl Streep style), Una (duetting with David Shannon) has an Ireland Eurovision 2012 song entry and she’ll be performing it at Bingo on Sunday. Republican Supports Gay Marriage!

A mother, who is also a politician – and a Republican at that! – tells her Legislature why she believes gay marriage must be introduced… It’s kinda American and cheesy but there are some funny moments. I could be cynical about Republican politicians and point out that it’s prolly only cuz her daughter is a lesbian that she’s made the “shift in conscience” to support gay marriage. But that wouldn’t be fair. Even though, personal experience of a minority is the fastest way to remove prejudice, it doesn’t always happen. Former US Vice President – and major toad- Dick Cheney didn’t shift his bad attitude towards the gays & lesbians even though his genes produced one!

Meet A Black Guy

Aspen in Colorado has a population of 6,658. Less than 1% are black. This guy set up a Meet & Greet booth so the locals could “Meet a Black Guy”. Here is the video:

Some folks got the joke, others plainly didn’t. And worst were the ones who didn’t realise that the joke was on them and their thinly vieled racism. Some of the best lines are “You’re not faking it, are you?“, “Mom! There’s a black guy down here” (Is he joking?), “What are you doing here?” (subtle but sums up the point) and my favourite “From a Norwegian to a Black, I’ll tell you we’re both about as ostracized as any two groups could be” (Seriously lady, WTF?).

I think we should set up a Meet a Homosexual booth and tour the world.

Kidnapped for Christ

Do you have a gay child? Why not send them to this nice prison for gay children in the Dominican Republic? (It’s in the Caribbean!)

The documentary Kidnapped for Christ follows the stories of several American teenagers who were sent to Escuela Caribe, an American-run Evangelical Christian reform school in The Dominican Republic. The children are taken (often against their will and in the dark of night) to a place that looks like a concentration camp. The people running the camp talk about the amount of “pain they are putting on everyone else” because they are not doing what their religious parents want. That usually means not being hetereosexual. Of course, not all the kids sent here are there because they are gay. Some just want to exercise their own free will and leave their parents fucked-up cults. Others might have drug problems, which may or may not be caused by being gay, in a fucked-up cult or having parents whose love for them is conditional on their behaviour. Whatever way you look at it, religion is the problem not the solution.

Former Irish Eurovision entrant (and gay girl about town) Donna McCaul’s video was shown to me last night. It has all the ingredients you want in a pop video. She has a helicopter, a big mansion and a lady garden! There’s also a bunch of people I know dancing about in Lillies Nightclub near the end. (Lillies? Donna, you’re gas!) Besides flashing her boobies, there’s a twist in the tale too! Shocking stuff altogether. Here is the video:

To be honest, I think I saw that twist coming Donna. I could see it in your predatory eyes.

Little known fact: The song is a cover of a song by The Rembrandts, the band who perform the theme to Friends.
