Here’s your dilemma: As Madonna once foretold, you secretly would love to know what if feels like to be a girl… and Halloween is your big chance… but your evil Mom won’t let you be a Princess.
Lord knows, we’ve all been there. Our harmless piece of fun (or private business) has the capacity to make somebody else have to think (for a second) – and therefore must be stomped out.
This slightly depressing US clip shows the intellectual cartwheels mothers perform to maintain the ‘gender binary’… and ruin their son’s big day. (There’s also a girl who wants to be Spiderman, and those arguments look even weaker, but the evil Moms can’t help trying to enforce their notions of gender). It’s all to prevent bullying, don’t ya know.
Well here’s a newsflash: It’s actually the mothers who are doing the ‘bullying’. Stop crushing their spirit, assholes.
And, here’s another thing, don’t acknowledge that “A Spiderman is only for one time. A princess you can be for 24 hours of the day!” and expect me not to want the costume version of the everlasting gobstopper. Gah, parents are stupid.

This year the GAZE film festival celebrates its 20th year. There was already a hugely successful festival in August, which celebrated the diversity of the LGBT community with some amazing films. Of course, you might have missed that, so… the nice folks at GAZE have arranged a “Best of…” event in December to give you a second chance viewing of four of the best loved films from the event.
Those films are Wish Me Away, Keep The Lights On, Vito and The Perfect Family, which you can see is quite the diverse selection. ‘Something for everybody’ as the cashier in the Boilerhouse likes to say.
