Academy Cup: 08 JAN 2012

The scores please… WEEK ONE of The Drag Academy Cup climaxed at Bingo in The George on Sunday. The two Houses (Wardrobe Malfunction and No Fixed Abode) took to the stage to earn points and had the theme LOVE to guide them. Their performances were evaluated by the regular mentors and some of the audience, which included TV3′s Family Fortunes presenter Alan Hughes, Eurovision winner Niamh Kavanagh and some girl whom I renamed Mundy. Points were awarded (and deducted) using the criteria Originality, Presentation and Performance.

Each Under-Draguate performed alone and with their House for a group performance. We had some incidences of “mushy mouth” (where the drag queen’s mouth movements bears no relationship to what’s happening in the song) and “aimless stage walking” (where the drag queen looks like she’s taking her dog for a walk around the stage) but all in all, most of the gang did very well.

As the spirit of this event is 100% positive, individual scores are NOT released but each under-draguate gets a personalised report card. Remember that each of the criteria (Originality, Presentation and Performance) can earn the Under-Draguates points for their Houses. In the end, No Fixed Abode pipped Wardrobe Malfunction to nab the top points this week.
