That’s me (back in 2008) doing my good deed for the day. The lovely child labour kids from Africa who handstitched my lovely dress were in for a big surprise when I sent them Streetwalker BarbieĀ© as a Thank You. Yeah, yeah, I only sent one Barbie. To be honest, I wasn’t that mad about the dress.

Happy Birthday to Sophia Loren who turned 77 today. Loren was the first actor to win an Oscar for a non-English speaking performance ever. She won for her part as a woman trying to protect her young daughter from the horrors of war in Two Women in the same year that Audrey Hepburn was nominated for Breakfast in Tiffany’s. As well as making a string of major Hollywood films since the 1960s, she also made records (including some comedy recordings …

Dancing Pro Bono

Today I learned that Chas Bono is a pretty good dancer (relatively speaking). Chas made his debut on US Tv show Dancing with the Stars last night, following weeks of controversy about his inclusion. After all, it’s his mother Cher who is the real star (relatively speaking). Chas is the programmes’ first transgender contestant and seems really at ease with his female dance partner – “We’ve got chemistry” and with the dancefloor.

Here‘s the trailer for the new Leonardo di Caprio movie about the life of J. Edgar Hoover. He was a controversial figure – loathed as much as he was liked – and reputedly had a “file” on everyone. He was also rumoured to have been a closet-case gay with a taste for ladies clothes.
