The US sitcom Friends ran from 1994-2004 and over that time it made countless references to gay & lesbian people. Most of the time, the gay people (or stereotypical gay behaviours) were the butt of the joke. (Snigger. I said “butt”). Here’s a video (click link here) that shows how gentle homophobia is present throughout the series. And it’s a good example of how homophobic thinking can be very, very subtle. Just like the make up I’m working today.
