I was somewhat cheered to see the Christian FundeMENTALists getting slapped back on the Late Late Show last night! It seems that a majority of the studio audience would “vote to allow gay people to get married”.

Now, I don’t think that all you gays out there are desperate to run down the aisle and get hitched – in fact, just as in the straight world, I know some of your lifestyles wouldn’t work with that. For me the point is about equality – pure and simple. Our society cherishes the role of the family (and, hell, our tax system even rewards it) and in this day and age, there is nothing to preclude the average gay or lesbian couple from building stable, long term relationships or having children. Loads have already. Isn’t it their basic right to have their family units acknowledged, respected and valued by law just as much as anyone else’s?

The “Christians” were banging on about their human rights – which apparently are the right to suppress, oppress and destroy anybody who doesn’t agree with them. I don’t know about you – but I’m sure that’s quite the opposite of the spirit of the New Testament. (The Old Testament is a crazy piece of literature that puts Lord of The Rings to shame for inventiveness and has more vengeance and vitriol than a night in “Out on The Liffey”).

Anyway, as these religious nuts across the globe insist on destroying (God’s?) creation, I am gonna do the one thing that really pisses them off – I am gonna have me some fabulous gay old fun! Anyone for a gay wedding?
